Island Hoops will be presenting the 2nd annual Iman Shumpert Basketball Skills Academy on September 6-7 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Melford Hazel Sports Complex in Philipsburg, St. Maarten. The camp is free and open to boys and girls ages 6-17, and is assured to be a great time.
Last year Shumpert attended the camp in it’s inaugural year and provided basketball tips, posed for pictures and offered advice to all the aspiring young ballplayers in attendance. His focus was on providing a foundation for future success on the court and providing them knowledge on how it’s important to keep their mind and bodies strong.
Shumpert joined the Knicks in 2011 out of Georgia Tech, where he starred for the Yellow Jackets from 2008-2011. During his three years in the league he has averaged 7.7 points and 3.5 rebounds a game and bumped up his average to 9.3 points and 6 rebounds a game in the 2013 NBA Playoffs when it counted most. As one of the Knicks top on ball defenders, he’ll be heavily relied upon in the future to help bring another championship back to New York.
